Slow living with Moonlight Fibers will be a new series on this blog as well as on YouTube. Crochet is absolutely a slow living art form, so it makes sense to show how else I enjoy slow living throughout my day. While I do love crochet, and this is a crochet-based blog, not every video will be solely focused on crochet. You can read my blog about crochet and digital detox by clicking here.
People are multifaceted, and my intentions are to show slow living, with crochet sprinkled in appropriately and organically. If I am not crocheting on a day I film a video, then I will not include crochet thrown into the mix for the sake of including a crochet piece. This blog post will detail the events of the video.

Super Bowl Sunday. When I woke up Sunday morning, I did not know I would be filming content to post a video. I knew we would be watching the game and we had some regular household chores to do, so I knew it would not be a crochet day for me. That’s ok! Not every day has to be a crochet day. It’s ok to fill my day with other projects and activities that also contribute to my slow living intentions.
The idea developed naturally throughout the early morning when my daughter and I were discussing what to make for breakfast. She has been cooking a lot more lately, and I always include her when making the menu for the day. We decided on something I have been cooking for her for years. Read more about what I made for breakfast for our slow morning.
Breakfast For Slow Mornings
For breakfast I made eggs in a basket. I love cooking eggs in a basket because it comes together relatively fast. For personal preference, I scramble the eggs first before pouring them in the middle of the hollowed-out bread. If you have never made eggs in a basket before then you can reference the accompanying video that will be linked at the en of the blog post if you want a visual.
Basically, to make eggs in a basket you take slices of bread and cut out the middle section, leaving some of the bread still attached to the crust. Then toast the bread and the bread pieces in butter on a pan and add the egg to the center of the bread. Flip when ready and make sure the egg is cooked properly. This breakfast has been a staple in my house for over five years and we love it. It was the perfect easy and fast breakfast to eat before all of our Super Bowl snacks throughout the day.
Preparing Coffee For Slow Living
Yum coffee. I love everything about coffee, and don’t even get me started on the aroma. Heaven! My grandma made coffee before I woke up. By the time I got around to pouring myself a cup the coffee was cold. No problem, I heated it up and continued to make the coffee how I like it. Lately I’ve been adding cinnamon, milk, and brown sugar to my coffee. The true star here is the brown sugar. I love the quiet moments of pouring my coffee and stirring the milk, brown sugar, and cinnamon together.
I’m usually a coffee and creamer kind of girl. A little more creamer than coffee if I’m being honest. I found that adding cinnamon helps a lot to add flavor to my coffee, and like I’ve said before, brown sugar is the star of the coffee here. I drank my coffee with my eggs in a basket for breakfast. I ended up making a second round of eggs in a basket for my grandma, which is always a pleasure to do. Love you, Grandma!
How We Spent Super Bowl Sunday With Intention
We watch the Super Bowl every year, and we like to make our own snack foods to munch on throughout the game. This year was a little bit different for us, but we still enjoyed the game without rushing through our day. After breakfast, we cleaned up, washed the dishes, and began prepping our snacks. We settled on pretzel bites and cheesecake. We also did laundry, I wash and she takes the clothes to the dryer. We also took a short walk outside to check on our garden area in the backyard. We are in Southern California, so even though it is February, the weather on this day was beautiful and warm and sunny. Check out the video to see how blue the sky was!
By the time the game was over, we were sitting down comfortably drinking our tea. We had butterfly pea tea, which is always fun to have. My daughter loves to add lemon to her cup to see the color change that happens with the lemon. I like to add honey to my tea because it is such a nice amount of natural sweetness that I enjoy.
We ended the day with the tea, and then cleaned up our dishes and put them away. I wash, she dries. It is a nice system we have created, and I think she enjoys having a defined role and responsibility when it comes to doing the house chores. And honestly, we usually break up the chores with random little dances. Wash a dish, do a little wiggle. Put a plate away, twirl back to the sink. That is exactly what we did after we had our tea before bed.
Slow Living Vlog 1 YouTube Video
Thank you so much for reading about my first vlog posted on YouTube! It took me a week to finish editing and uploading. My first computer stopped working during the week (yikes, I know), and I had to switch computers halfway through. But I was able to finish the video, and I got everything uploaded to YouTube! You can view the video by clicking below or by going directly to our YouTube channel..
